How does St. Tropez work?

St. Tropez formulations contain a unique combination of two completely safe active ingredients that work together to give a gorgeously natural looking colour that fades naturally, too. The first, dihydroxyacetone (or DHA for short) is an organic colorless sugar that interacts with the amino acids in the surface layer of the skin to produce a temporary color change – your tan. This ingredient is combined with Erythrulose, a naturally moisturizing ingredient derived from raspberries, that works in the same way as DHA but it develops more slowly, giving you a smoother colour that lasts longer and fades more evenly.

How long do I need to wait before showering?

Ideally leave it undisturbed for 8 hours (1-3 hours for Express tan)– the tan will keep developing for up to 24 hours.

Will I turn orange or go too dark?

You will not turn orange with St Tropez – our solutions contains a green vegetable sourced pigment to help counteract any orange tinge. Our products are uniquely formulated to work with your natural gold and brown skin tone so, as your tan develops it will only go as dark as your skin would naturally tan.

Is St. Tropez toxic in any way?

No, none of the active ingredients in St. Tropez have any known toxicity.

How long will my tan last?

Generally, a St. Tropez self-tan will last between 5-10 days, depending on your skin type and how you care for it.

To help make sure your tan lasts for as long as possible:

​

1. Soak your skin and then exfoliate thoroughly with St. Tropez Body Polish before your spray tan session.

2. After your spray tan, leave the self-tanner on overnight to allow for deepest penetration. This does not make your tan become darker, only longer lasting.

3. Apply St. Tropez Tan enhancing Body Moisturizer Daily.

4. To keep your self-tan going, in place of step 4 above, apply your choice of gradual tan products daily or repeat applications of your favorite self-tanner weekly.

To ensure that your tan fades away as evenly as possible, continue to apply St Tropez Body Moisturizer daily, and every 2-3 days, St. Tropez Body Polish should also be used.

Can I swim WITH A SPRAY TAN?

You must not wash, bathe, swim, shower or exercise within the 8 hour development time. You can swim once your tan has developed but swimming in the sea and chlorinated pools may result in your tan fading more quickly.

Can I SPRAY TAN during pregnancy?

Yes, our main tanning agent is certified organic dihydroxyacetone, with no known toxicity. St. Tropez only works upon the uppermost layers of the skin and cannot enter the bloodstream. However, be aware that hormonal changes during pregnancy (especially during the first 3 months) may affect the development of the tan. Do not apply to the breast area if breastfeeding.

Does A SPRAY TAN protect me from U.V. exposure?

No. There are no sun filters in St Tropez products so it’s very important that you still use a sun protection product with sufficient levels of SPF when exposing your skin to the sun.  Despite the appearance of having a natural tan, you must treat your skin as if it does not.

What should I do if I'm worried about being sensitive or allergic to St. Tropez?

Although extremely rare, always seek medical advice if you think you have had an allergic reaction to St. Tropez products. We do recommend that you carry out a patch test 24 hours before using St. Tropez products whether at home or with us, just to be sure you don’t have any sensitivity before using the product all over.
